The room
At bimbi-nilo, the owners’ musical selections and occasional guest DJs give a small basement bar its rhythm. Cocktails accompany the music in a room whose low ceilings and absorbent finishes shaped the audio brief.
The project draws on 1970s hi-fi visually as well as technically. Its roughly 60-square-metre footprint makes the relationship between speakers, furniture and listening space especially direct.

Sound system
Browse this venue’s gear ↗ifAUDIO restored Tannoy Arundel Super Red loudspeakers, developing replacement crossovers and custom cabinets for the installation. An Audio Research SP14 preamplifier works with two Classic 120 monoblocks; a Cambridge Audio CXN100 provides digital playback. The modified Tannoys are a venue-specific installation, rather than an untouched factory configuration.
