Audio Note (UK)

Audio Note (UK) makes valve electronics and hi-fi components. Its amplifiers and preamplifiers were part of an early Los Angeles listening-bar installation.

Design & approach

Audio Note (UK) develops complete playback systems and keeps substantial component manufacture in house, including transformers and foil capacitors. Its history includes the OTO amplifier, introduced in 1991. The breadth of the range makes precise attribution important: an Audio Note amplifier in a venue does not imply that the rest of the installation is from the same manufacturer.

Historical installation

At the original Arts District bar, Audio Note’s Jinro Shochu drove the Klipschorns and an M5 served as preamplifier. These are historical equipment details from the earlier venue.

Inside the system

The original Arts District bar used Klipschorn AK6 mains and modified Heresy speakers at the bar. Audio Note Jinro Shochu and M5 electronics served the main installation, with a McIntosh 6100 also in the system. Two Garrard 301s carried 12-inch Schick arms in Vinylista plinths, alongside a Condesa rotary mixer. The 2021 NeueHouse residency used a different combination: Graham LS5/8 monitors with EAR 509 monoblocks and a 912 linestage/phono stage. These are separate historical installations, each with its own speaker and amplifier pairing.
