Luxman

Luxman makes high-end audio electronics in Japan. Both vintage power amplifiers and newer integrated designs appear in the directory.

Design & approach

Luxman describes its engineering in terms of preserving the nuances carried from performer to recording and playback. Its amplifiers appear in different roles across this directory, from an integrated amplifier in a listening room to separate power amplification in a larger system. Exact model identification is retained where published rather than inferred from the brand alone.

Equipment in use

La Analógica HIFI lists Luxman in its equipment list setup. The equipment details below reflect the venue record.

  • Amplification: L435

Inside the system

A Reloop RP7000MK2 turntable and Taula 4MR mixer sit alongside a collection of vintage amplification: Harman Kardon HK430, Tandberg TR2060 and Luxman L435. Loudspeaker options include Polk RTA12C, Bose 901 Series 2 and JBL L110. The equipment represents several possible playback combinations. Each speaker family has a different layout and operating requirement, so the collection is best understood as a roster of components rather than one permanently connected chain.

Hidden Grooves ↗

Equipment in use

A Luxman M-10X drives the Westminster speakers. A 509Z provides preamplification and powers the smaller Autograph Minis in the wider installation.

  • Main power amplifier: M-10X
  • Preamplifier / fill amplification: 509Z

Inside the system

Project Audio’s installation combines Tannoy Westminster Royal-class towers and Super Tweeters with four TPI UC15G units, two beneath each Westminster. Tannoy Autograph Minis provide fill, with Luxman M-10X and 509Z electronics, FFA/NST amplification and DSP crossover and time alignment. Two Technics SL-1200G decks feed an Isonoe 420 rotary mixer. Separate listening stations use an SL-1210MK7, Leak Stereo 130 and Grado SR325x headphones. Townshend Seismic Isolators are used beneath the speaker stacks, linking the large-format loudspeaker arrangement with mechanical isolation.

Equipment in use

Shibuya Hi-Fi lists Luxman in its amplifiers setup. The equipment details below reflect the venue record.

  • HiFi room amplifier: L-505uXii

Inside the system

Shibuya Hi-Fi assigns a different system to each of its three rooms. The dedicated HiFi room pairs Klipschorns with a Luxman L-505uXii. The bar combines JBL “Heritage 100s,” as described by the venue, with Naim NAC72 and NAP140 electronics. The lounge uses bespoke Cathode Bias / Café Sound loudspeakers with 15-cell horns and dual 15-inch woofers. Technics SL-1200 MK2 decks and a Bozak AR4 rotary also form part of the project. The room-by-room distinctions matter: the custom lounge system is separate from the Klipsch and JBL installations.
